First appearance Ch8001

Azrael is a veteran seventh-level wizard of the Scarlet Hive and a master of the Law of Decay, who has pursued decay for several thousand years and sees a law resonance partnership with Kastilla as his only road to the eighth level.12 He is the rival suitor expected to contest her marriage to Clark, and he turns the wedding duels into a trap that drops the whole party into the chaotic interlayer.2711 He leaves with the Death Husk his line has sought for generations.1011

Relationships

  • Kastilla: Intended partner by calculation, not love; a resonance of their laws could carry him to the eighth level.12
  • Clark: Rival for Kastilla; later his rescuer against a mirrored spatial fold beast.19
  • Viola: Foresees his move against the wedding; her Law of Pain is the key he exploits to kill a spatial fold beast.111
  • Jessie: Chief disciple.4
  • Rashid: Disciple, whose bout he concedes before a blow is struck.45
  • Two eighth-level elders of his line: Extract the Death Husk with him.10

Background

Viola's image shows a middle-aged wizard in a dark red robe with gray eyes that seem to devour life; in person he wears black, with a pale handsome face and long silver-gray hair, and the garden guests make way for him.13 He has studied the decay discipline for several thousand years and raised his law base to ten thousand before advancing, which makes him one of the foremost geniuses among the Scarlet Hive's seventh-levels; his school backs him heavily because a union with Kastilla's law could reach the eighth level.1211 His line spent several hundred thousand years locating the chaotic interlayer's coordinates.11

  • Ch861: Named as Kastilla's rival suitor on the Scarlet Hive side, backed by his school.2

  • Ch868-869: Collapses the arena's spatial arrays, calls it an accident, and lectures on the spatial fold beasts below.78
  • Ch874: Fights his own mirrored beast, is rescued by Clark and admits the gap was wider than he knew.9
  • Ch875-876: Extracts a broken Death Husk with his elders; the arena collapse is revealed as engineered after he recognized Viola's Law of Pain as the key.1011
